Create a List of Likes, Talents, and Skills

Start by putting on your thinking cap and taking out your pen and some paper. Come up with a comprehensive list of all the things that you love to do. Try not to limit yourself when you are making this list. Just let your imagination flow. Also, think about the talents and skills that you possess while you are making the list.

At this point, this is a jumping off start to figure out what your new career in Miami can be. Consider what the city needs, as well. Can you speak more than one language? In a diverse city like Miami, being able to communicate with many types of people can be a great skillset.

Match Jobs

Go line by line on your list. As you read each one of your likes, talents and skills, write down one or more jobs that allow you to apply this experience. For example, you might be highly organized. Planning jobs, such as event planners, urban planning and development coordinators and catering directors are a few examples of careers that allow you to apply your organizational skills.

If you are not sure what kinds of careers and job positions match your skill set, then conduct some research on job boards and career sites. Read job postings to identify some of the skills and experience companies are seeking in employees and which positions it applies.

Get Training

As you narrow down your job options, you have to assess whether you have all the skills, training and experience you need to make a career out of it. If not, then you have to go through the process of training for the career you want.

For example, if you want to break into the medical field, then you can seek medical assistant training in Miami. It doesn’t hurt to take a refresher course or a set of classes to help beef up your skills. Recent continuing education classes can also help to fill out your resume.

Make Finding a Job a Full-Time Job

Once you have your mind set on the career you want to pursue and you have your training, it’s time to land a position. In fact, you can make finding a job your current full-time job. Scour job boards and classified ads under the job categories of your chosen career. You can event set up online alerts for new job postings, so you can review the listing and apply for the job sooner than later.

If you took a training course or program, ask about a job assistance program, where the institution helps you to find job opportunities. Some programs even help you prepare your résumé, prep you for interviews and help you choose professional attire to attend the interview.

Starting a new career in a city such as Miami can seem like a daunting experience. When you take on the process one step at a time, however, you have the opportunity to launch a new career and start a new life in a city that many would love to live.
